Unit 9: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
This unit combines Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with the Solar System and space exploration. Pupils learn about astronauts, read about Neil Armstrong and Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, write a space letter, learn 'across' and 'through', and visit the Chocolate Room.

SK Seri Damai organises a Space Exploration Week (4-8 August) with activities: Solar System exhibition, session with Dato' Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar, rocket launch videos, model-making, diorama, quiz, telescope model, colouring and essay contests. Pupils write a letter home from the ISS describing food, toilet, clothing, and bedtime.
Food: in aluminium tubes or plastic containers, similar to Earth food
Toilet: no showers, fastened to the toilet so as not to float away
Clothing: same clothes as on Earth, special clothes while working
Bedtime: sleeping bags, strap in so as not to float around
'Across' and 'through' are prepositions of direction — they show where someone or something is going to or coming from.

Use 'across' to move from one side to the other of a surface (across the field, across the ocean). Use 'through' to go from one point to another by passing inside (through the tunnel, through the jungle). Yuri Gagarin was the first human in space; Neil Armstrong was the first to walk on the Moon.
