Bab 6: Days, Months & Spending Smartly
This bab covers Units 16–18. Pupils learn the phonemes /j/, /z/ (zz), /kw/, /tS/ (ch), /S/ (sh), name the days of the week, months of the year, and how to spend money smartly.

What day is it today? — Today is Tuesday.
What day was it yesterday? — It was Monday.
What day is it tomorrow? — Tomorrow is Wednesday.
Note: Begin days with capital letters.
There are 7 days in a week. Days of the week always begin with capital letters: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. 'Yesterday' = the day before today; 'tomorrow' = the day after today.

When is Kiran's birthday? — In May.
When is Malaysia Day? — In September.

There are 12 months in a year: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December. Malaysia's National Day is in August and Malaysia Day is in September.

Pupils read about buying items at a shop. They learn that money is needed to buy things and that we should spend wisely on what we need.

We need money to buy things. The 'ch' sound is in chips and bench; the 'sh' sound is in shirt and fish. Always spend smartly — buy what you need first, then what you want.

The names of the days come from old gods and planets! 'Sunday' is the sun's day, 'Monday' is the moon's day, and 'Saturday' is Saturn's day. Months also come from Latin — 'September' meant 'seventh month' because the Roman year started in March!
