Theme: The World is a Beautiful Place
This theme explores famous landmarks and places in Malaysia and the world. Pupils listen to descriptions of landmarks, read a brochure about Perak, learn to identify main idea and supporting details, write paragraphs, study the simple present tense, and recite a poem about a garden.

Belum Forest Reserve — a large rainforest in Gerik; habitat for endangered elephants, rhinoceros, tapirs, and tigers.
Pupils write paragraphs using a main idea and supporting details.
Example: 'Gunung Pulai Recreational Forest 2 is a popular picnic spot in Johor. There are several waterfalls with man-made pools. It is an ideal place for camping and jungle trekking. The forest also has a unique flora and fauna sanctuary.'
Main idea (MI): the topic sentence.
Supporting details: explain or give examples for the main idea.
Use a tree map or bubble map to brainstorm, then write a paragraph about Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre.
We use the simple present tense to show habits, regular actions, present time, and general facts.
Habit: I brush my teeth every day.
Regular action: She teaches English every Saturday.
Present time: We are hungry.
General facts: The earth is round. Birds have wings.
Example from Krabi letter: 'Every morning, my family and I wake up early to see the sunrise... People in Krabi are very friendly. They always smile at us.'
Pupils recite a poem about an imaginary garden and draw their own.
If I should have a garden, there'd be daisies and buttercups and an apple tree.
A dog would chase a ball, a bird would sing, and a little cat would play with a piece of string.
Flora (plants) and fauna (animals) found in the poem: daisies, buttercups, apple tree, dog, bird, cat, ladybirds, butterflies.
Replace the flora and fauna and rewrite the poem; draw an imaginary garden and label it.
A good paragraph has a main idea (the key concept) and supporting details that explain it. An itinerary is a plan of a journey. Famous landmarks: Angkor Wat (Siem Reap), Eiffel Tower (Paris), Sydney Opera House (Sydney), Big Ben (London), Statue of Liberty (New York).
The simple present tense shows habits (I brush my teeth), regular actions (She teaches English), and general facts (The earth is round). Flora = plants; fauna = animals.

Big Ben is technically the name of the Great Bell inside the clock tower, not the tower itself! The Eiffel Tower was named after its engineer Gustave Eiffel and was originally meant to be temporary. Belum Forest Reserve in Perak is one of the world's oldest rainforests — older than the Amazon!
