Theme: Save Mother Earth
This theme focuses on protecting the environment. Pupils learn about the 3R campaign and recycling bins, read a speech on saving Mother Earth and a fact sheet on waste decomposition, write paragraphs with concluding sentences, study the present continuous tense, and explore the story of Hansel and Gretel.
Encik Hakimi explains the 3R Campaign: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Three-coloured recycling bins collect waste for recycling.

Avoid using disposable items — plastic cups, bags, and containers take a minimum of 20 years to decompose.

A concluding sentence summarises the main idea of a paragraph.
It is the last sentence in a paragraph.
It restates the topic sentence using different words.
It should not introduce any new ideas.
It may use linking words such as so, thus, therefore or hence.
Example: 'It is important to save electricity... Therefore, we should always do our best to save electricity.'
The present continuous tense (is/am/are + verb-ing) refers to things happening now, habits over a period of time, and things in the near future.
Happening now: I am reading a book on the environment.
Over a period of time: They are studying in the university.
Near future: Najmee is coming home on Thursday.
Negative form: They are not sleeping. He is not washing his car.
Example (gotong-royong): Encik Hakimi is cleaning the drain. Najmee is sorting out the rubbish. Kamini is throwing the rubbish into the recycling bins.
Pupils discuss the story of Hansel and Gretel, abandoned in the forest by their father and stepmother.
Hansel and Gretel stumble upon a chocolate and candy-coated house.
An old witch who lives in the house invites them in.
Discuss what is seen on the front and back cover of the book.

Styrofoam and glass jars/bottles NEVER decompose in landfills — they last forever! Aluminium cans take 200 to 500 years to decompose, but banana and orange peels take only 3 to 4 weeks. The slogan 'Keep the future bright, turn off the light' reminds us that small actions save the Earth.
