Unit 3: Superheroes
This unit is about superheroes. Pupils interview Captain Malaysia, read about his mission and Master Kiddo, decode messages, write a news report, learn reflexive pronouns, and recite a funny poem 'The Meal'.
Pupils role-play interviewing Captain Malaysia. Sample interview questions:
What is your real name? Where do you live?
How do you sense danger? How do you get your powers?
What special gadgets do you use? Did you design the shield and car?
Who do you usually help? Any advice for school children?
Captain Malaysia's mission is to protect all the children in Malaysia. Key facts:
No one knows who he is or where he lives — only he himself has the answers
He senses danger through supersensitive hearing and bionic vision
He can run and fly as fast as lightning
He uses a titanium shield to protect himself from enemy attacks
His best friend is Master Kiddo who helps him whenever needed
Children love him because he is kind, unselfish, and never boastful
Pupils decode a coded message on Captain Malaysia's phone, then write a news report 'CAPTAIN MALAYSIA SAVES THE DAY' by Vijay Menon. Master Kiddo facts:
Master Kiddo is Captain Malaysia's sidekick and best friend
Wears a blue costume, has extraordinary powers
Swims and dives, breathes underwater
Cleans and guards the sea, keeps it free from pollution
Protects children, is responsible and brave
A reflexive pronoun shows that the action of the verb affects the person who performs the action (e.g. 'He reminds the children to take care of themselves'). 'By' + reflexive pronoun means 'alone'.

Reflexive pronouns end in -self or -selves and refer back to the doer of the action: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves. Adding 'by' before a reflexive pronoun means 'alone' (e.g. 'He lives by himself').
📝 Kosa Kata
Reflexive pronouns don't exist for all pronouns — there is no 'hisself' or 'theirselves' in standard English! Use 'himself' and 'themselves' instead. The word 'myself' comes from Old English 'me self'.
